DEBATE PROTOCAL

There is a limit of 6 entries in L-D Varsity; 6 entries in Novice L-D, 6 entries in Public Forum and 6 in Novice Policy.  Limits may be increased if the entry numbers are high enough.

One full-time varsity judge or equivalent is required for every one to three persons in LD.  One full time judge is required for every two teams in novice policy.  High school students may judge in novice policy provided they are in at least their third year of Varsity Policy Debate.    Most contestants with a 3-2 record will participate in an appropriate elimination round.  Only teams with a winning record may advance.  Brackets will not be broken.

LEGISLATIVE DEBATE:

This year there will be a Separate Friday Chamber for students who will compete in IE’s on Saturday.

In the main (two-day) legislative debate contest each school may bring up to 12 participants divided between 2 to 3 chambers.  Coaches, please indicate on the registration form your chamber preference for each student.  Rules are found in the IHSFL Tournament Procedures.  Schools entering are encouraged to PREPARE AT LEAST TWO “CAMERA READY” BILLS for consideration.  Only 1 bill will be guaranteed an authorship speech by the submitting school.  An agenda of selected bills will be mailed to school entered in Legislative Debate.  Bills should be prepared carefully and approved by the coach.  Missing the bill deadline means no bill from your school will be considered.  Once bill distribution has taken place, the agenda will be finalized.
